How much does a PrestaShop store cost in 2026?
PrestaShop is free, but a store that sells is not. The software is open source; what costs money is the set-up, the modules, the connections and the upkeep. Here is how the budget is built, based on what we see in the field — as with the PACAP store.
The main budget items
- Installation and configuration: shipping, payment, taxes, carriers, emails.
- Theme: an adapted commercial theme (a few hundred euros in licences) or a custom design.
- Modules: payment, customer reviews, SEO, filters… often paid, sometimes by subscription.
- Catalogue: product import, variants (sizes, colours), photos.
- Connections: ERP, point-of-sale software, suppliers, marketplaces.
Orders of magnitude
Excluding VAT, for a professional build:
- Starter store (adapted theme, simple catalogue): €5,000 to €10,000.
- Customised store (design, variants, SEO, selected modules): €10,000 to €25,000.
- Connected store (ERP, supplier feeds, multistore): over €25,000.
Recurring costs
- hosting suited to PrestaShop, more demanding than a simple brochure site;
- module subscriptions;
- maintenance: PrestaShop and module updates, compatibility, backups;
- payment provider fees.
The stacked-modules trap
Each need solved by a new module adds code, queries and a risk of incompatibility. After a few years, many stores become slow and hard to update. Fewer, well-chosen modules are better, with a little custom development when a module only does half the job.
Is PrestaShop the right choice?
PrestaShop suits catalogues with variants and stores that want to control their data and avoid commissions on sales. It does, however, require serious hosting and maintenance. See our PrestaShop page and our technical expertise.
