Web agency or freelancer: which should you choose for your project?
The question comes up often, and the answer depends less on legal status than on the fit between provider and project. AUXIOMA is in fact the business of an independent developer working with an agency method: we know both models from the inside.
What a freelancer brings
- a single point of contact who does the work personally;
- lower overheads, so often a lower price;
- responsiveness on well-defined projects.
The limit: availability and continuity if the project grows or if they are away.
What an agency brings
- several skills under one roof: design, development, copywriting, SEO;
- continuity of service if one person is unavailable;
- capacity to take on larger projects.
The limit: a higher cost, and sometimes a gap between the salesperson who sells and the team that delivers.
How to decide
- Small website, tight budget: an experienced independent is often the best choice.
- Multidisciplinary project (visual identity, content, development, campaign): an agency or a collective.
- Business application: rely on real technical expertise and documentation, whatever the status.
The criteria that really matter
Whatever the status, check the work, the clarity of the quote, code ownership, documentation and the maintenance plan. A well-documented project can be taken over by another provider; that is the best insurance. To learn more about how we work, see the about page.
